Marlborough Hall, which opened in 1857 as the Halifax Mechanic's Institute and is now occupied by the YMCA. Perhaps the most adaptable venue in Calderdale, this wonderful, 500-capacity venue in the 50-60’s provided a home for some of the UK’s finest Acts.

Originally a dance hall, the Marlborough Hall was first hired out as a live music venue by wrestler Big Daddy (Shirley Crabtree) and his brother and was popular as a hangout for youths from the surrounding areas throught the 5’s & 60’s. Many historic shows have been staged at the Marlborough Hall through the decades, including sets by Lulu and The Lovers, Richie Valance, Billy Fury, Donovan, The Merseybeats, The Searchers… and many more.

The Marlborough Hall’s music history ended in the Late 60’s due to rocketing rent charges, but was saved in 2014 by John Varey & Lee Horsefall of Gorilla Zoo Promotions, securing backing from the YMCA. The Live stage grand reopening party is to be headlined by The Mersey Beats who last played the very stage in the ’65.  With support from The Defenders and the Halifax Rock 'n' Roll club the grand opening night on Saturday 29th March will be a real celebration. Be apart of history, come along.!!
